WHAT TO DO ABOUT AN UNCONFIGURED DEVICE
1) What is an unconfigured device alarm
a. In order to support an install base of SNMPWEBCARDS running firmware less than 12.04.0040 Tripp Lite’s PowerAlert Network Management Software allows for detection and monitoring of these devices using the following configuration steps.
b. When PowerAlert Management Software (PANMS) discovers Tripp Lite devices on it attempts to automatically register and configure the device to send SNMP traps to IP address of the PANMS machine. On SNMPWEBCARDs with firmware less than 12.04.0040 PANMS is not able to complete this process.
2) What needs to be configured on the “unconfigured” device?
a. 12.04.0040 Device
i. An ‘Unconfigured’ alarm on a 12.04.0040 device indicates that the SNMP community that was used to discover the device was ‘read only’.The solution is to either change the read only community to read/write access, or enter a new SNMP community string with 'read/write/' access, delete the IP address from PANMS and the add the device again using the new ‘read/write’ community string
b. 12.04.0034 Device
i. Verify that the PANMS station was able to register with the device. Check the Settings-Contacts menu and click the SNMP tab to verify that there is an entry similar to Figure 3 but with the correct IP address set. If there is not an entry, add a ‘New’ SNMP contact with the correct IP and a name of PowerAlert Network Management.>
ii. It is necessary to go to the Settings-Events menu and configure all events to send SNMP traps to the PANMS system. It is necessary to at least configure the first event in the list. When PANMS periodically checks the devices in the list it will perform a check for the first event to be configured to send traps. Once PANMS detects the configuration change it will clear the ‘unconfigured’ alarm. Highlight the first event in the event list then click on the SNMP Trap notification check box, a pop up will appear, Figure 2, highlight the “PowerAlert Network” trap destination and then click save. On the Event Settings screen, verify that the SNMP Trap notification is enabled and then click the ‘Save Changes’ button. Repeat for each event.

c. 12.04.0032, 12.04.0030, and 12.04.0019
i. The IP address needs to be filled in for the PANMS station on the SNMP tab under the Settings-Contacts menu. In the SNMP contact list a PowerAlert Network Management entry will be present but the IP address will be empty. Click on this entry and then click on the edit button to edit the IP address, Figure 3. If there is not an entry, add a ‘New’ SNMP contact with the correct IP and a name of PowerAlert Network Management.
